I got to go! I got to go! I got to go to the Junk Show!

I had about 500 things on my "to do list" today (saturday), but instead... I grabbed my camera and my daughter and we went to the Junk Show! I absolutely loved it! And even better, Elena loved it too, she said she was so glad that she went! Yeah! Start 'em junking young!

So, I'm really new to blogging and even newer to following blogs. I now have a folder in my google reader labeled "NW Junking" and I'm really enjoying the blogs. So, the minute I walked in the door of the Junk Show I saw people that I recognized, but had never met before. It was a bit odd. I didn't quite know what to do. Do I walk up and start a conversation like we're old friends? Do I tell them I subscribe to their blog, but all of a sudden I feel like a stalker because I know things about you and you have no idea who I am? Do I bother telling them who I am, I'm sure they have tons of followers, do they really care who I am? I was surprised at how stumped I was. I told my husband about my quandary after I got home and he said, "you say hi, I'm Greta, I follow your blog and I really like it." Um, I guess I should've called him during the show. Instead, in my weird-shy-Scandinavian-Mid-Western way, here's what I did. I smiled, made moderate eye contact, had some "small-talk" conversations but I also had some meaningful conversations with a couple of vendors who were very kind and helpful. I completely avoided the bloggers that I follow. And then I came home and subscribed to the blogs of the helpful bloggers... oh brother.


Before I left for the show, I had a nervous moment and I told my husband that I feel like I'm a nervous freshman and it's the first day of school. I was going to the show to shop and browse, but I also wanted to scope it out to see what it was like, I wanted to see if I could fit in with this crowd. I mean really, could I run with the seniors? It's a bit of a dream. My sister and I often talk about it, doing it together, someday - when the kids are older, someday - when we have time, someday - we dream about being on the vendor side of the show. So, at first I wasn't sure. I was very impressed with the displays, the inventory and the aesthetic and as I walked around the show, I started to feel more like I could fit in here. I saw a lot of items that I liked and considered buying, but I refrained because I realized I could find the same thing at a yard sale or a thrift store for a fraction of the price, or I could make that, you know - just like the vendors did. I realized I could, in fact run with the seniors, someday. I was also relieved to see a vendor or two sitting by themselves with their nose in a book, and they still seemed to be selling items. Whew! I might be able to do it after all... except, I'd bring a magazine, lots of them.

We wandered around for an hour or so and then we left with our three small purchases. Elena and her horse ribbons and me with these. A Princess House glass dome ($8.00) and 2 really cool linen seed bags ($10.00).

I knew I already had the perfect size stand at home to go with it. I love it!

I have a certain "someone" in mind for this seed bag. Pillow or tote bag? Or, I guess it could be framed and hung on a wall. I can't decide. What do you think? 

The next "Junk Salvation" Vintage Fleamarket by The Funky Junk Sisters is in Puyallup,Wa on May 13th & 14th. Oh, I can hardly wait!
